Donald Trump Makes Bold Claim About Venezuela Being 51st State

Donald Trump drew attention after making a brief remark about Venezuela following its advancement to a major international baseball final, referencing the country’s recent momentum and its relationship with the United States.

Donald Trump speaks about Venezuela after baseball game

Venezuela defeated Italy 4-2 in a World Baseball Classic semifinal on March 16, 2026, after scoring three runs in the seventh inning to secure the comeback victory, according to Fox News. The result advanced Venezuela to the final, where it will face Team USA, marking the country’s first appearance in the championship game.

President Donald Trump responded to the win on Truth Social, writing, “Wow! Venezuela defeated Italy tonight, 4-2, in the WBC (Baseball!) Semifinal. They are looking really great. Good things are happening to Venezuela lately! I wonder what this magic is all about? STATEHOOD, #51, ANYONE?”

The United States reached the final after narrowly defeating the Dominican Republic in its semifinal matchup, which ended on a controversial strike three call. The upcoming final represents the third appearance for Team USA, which has previously won the tournament once.

Earlier in 2026, the United States conducted a military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who were transported to the U.S. to face federal weapons and narco-terrorism charges.

Following these developments, diplomatic relations between the two countries have shown signs of improvement. An American flag was raised over the U.S. Embassy building in Caracas for the first time in seven years, indicating a shift in bilateral engagement.

The World Baseball Classic final between the United States and Venezuela is scheduled to take place Tuesday night. Venezuela secured its semifinal victory in Miami after trailing by one run before the seventh-inning rally. Players, including pitcher Daniel Palencia, reacted on the field following the final out, as the team advanced to face the United States. The matchup brings together a first-time finalist in Venezuela and an experienced U.S. side with prior championship success.
