Everyone Who Was Bleeped at Oscars 2026 for What They Said

Several moments during the 2026 Oscars drew attention after parts of acceptance speeches were censored during the live broadcast. A few winners had their remarks briefly muted while reacting onstage as they accepted their awards at the ceremony.

Mike Hill

Mike Hill was censored during the ceremony while accepting the Best Makeup and Hairstyling award for Frankenstein alongside Jordan Samuel and Cliona Fuery. The film won over nominees including Kokuho, Sinners, The Smashing Machine, and The Ugly Stepsister at the 98th Academy Awards held on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Hill briefly swore while trying to retrieve his glasses from his suit pocket as he approached the microphone. During the broadcast, he appeared to say “oh s**t” before reacting with “Oh no!” while adjusting himself at the podium.

After retrieving his glasses, Hill continued his remarks about the film’s production. “It’s such an honor to be here. Thank you so much,” he said. “While we were making this film, we had the sense we were part of something very special, and tonight really confirms that.”

Gwendolyn Yates Whittle

Another censored moment occurred when F1 won the Best Sound award, accepted by Gary A. Rizzo, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gareth John, Al Nelson, and Juan Peralta. The group appeared on stage to recognize the film’s sound production work.

While beginning her remarks, Whittle lost her place while attempting to speak from memory. She shouted “F**k!” before pausing and apologizing during the live broadcast.

She then continued by reading from her prepared statement. “Sorry. I’m sorry! Our gratitude goes to our partners, our parents, our children, our grandchildren. Movies are made for you,” she said. “Go see the blockbusters, go see the independents. Be inspired, go with friends, get a fresh point of view.”

Kate Hawley

Kate Hawley also had a censored moment after winning the Best Costume Design award for Frankenstein. Her speech included acknowledgements to her team and director Guillermo del Toro.

“On behalf of myself and the amazing team that I work with — the artisans, the alchemists, the dream weavers — we’re so grateful to The Academy for recognizing our craft,” Hawley said. She added, “Thank you for the vision and for taking us on your journey.”

The broadcast muted part of her speech while she thanked her family. “And my family, who’ve put up with a lot of s**t over the years …” Hawley said before concluding her remarks.
