During the opening monologue of his talk show, Jimmy Fallon took a dig at US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about the ongoing conflict with Iran, and compared it to shopping at “IKEA with spouse.” Fallon’s joke comes a day after the president called the conflict both a war and an excursion.
Jimmy Fallon makes fun of Donald Trump’s Iran war comments
On The Tonight Show’s Thursday episode, Jimmy Fallon joked about Donald Trump’s remarks about the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. Jimmy Fallon brought up the topic, addressing the president’s interview on March 11 in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, a journalist asked Trump whether the US’s conflict with Iran is a “war” or an “excursion.” In response, Trump said that it was both. He added, “It’s an excursion that will keep us out of a war.”
Back on the show, the talk show host remarked, “Yeah, it’s an excursion that’s also a war. It’s like going to IKEA with your spouse.” He then enacted a hypothetical conversation between a husband and wife at an IKEA store. “It’s like, ‘Really? You buy it. We can’t afford that!” Fallon joked.
While that was the end of Fallon’s joke, Trump had a lot more to say during the interview. He described the conflict as a war for Iran, but for the United States, it had turned out to be “easier” than expected. Trump then went on to explain how the US had been able to counter most of Iran’s missiles, estimated at around 7,000-8,000, before they even launched.
The Republican leader said that Iran had drones “all over the place,” but claimed that the US has been successful in “knocking out the drone plants.” He also added that the U.S. forces had struck as many as 28 Iranian mine ships.
The reporter’s question was prompted by Trump’s remarks about their “excursion,” which had affected oil prices. The president assured that the market is holding up “well,” claiming that the impact is less than he had anticipated. “Prices are coming down substantially. Oil will be coming down. That’s just a matter of war. That happens,” he explained.
