The author and longtime partner of comedian Ricky Gervais confirmed she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, revealing the news in a social media post. Fallon also shared details about how doctors discovered the condition and what steps she is taking next.

Author Jane Fallon, the longtime partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, revealed that she has breast cancer. Fallon shared the news in an Instagram post on March 12. She explained that doctors detected the condition at an early stage and expect a positive outcome.
She wrote, “About a month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer – very early stage thankfully & the prognosis is excellent.”
Fallon said doctors discovered the cancer during a routine screening before Christmas, even though she had no symptoms. She explained, “I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy.” The author added that she later underwent additional scans and testing.
She said the diagnostic process involved multiple procedures to determine the exact location of the issue. Fallon wrote, “Since then I’ve had more mammograms, more biopsies and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely.” She added, “It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie,” while confirming surgery is planned soon.
Fallon also noted that she is receiving treatment and support while preparing for the operation. She stated, “But, my surgery is scheduled for the week after next and I just want to get it over with now.” She also wrote, “I’m getting incredible care and all will be fine but I’m not engaging with much beyond audiobooks & jigsaws tbh.”
Gervais and Fallon have been together since meeting at University College London in 1982. Gervais later created After Life, a series that includes a storyline involving illness and loss. Fallon ended her update today by referencing her pet’s writing, “Dr Eric on duty. Nurse Pickle wondering when lunch is.”
