Stephen Colbert Responds to Donald Trump’s Demand With Brutal 7-Word Question

Stephen Colbert fired back with a blunt response to Donald Trump, who earlier revealed that he wants to pick Iran’s next national leader. Trump believes that it is necessary to elect a new leader who will not lead them into war, as he can’t come back to such a situation again and again in the future. During the show, Colbert also touched upon Trump’s spending on the war with Iran.

During the “Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, the host addressed the earlier comments of President Trump about wanting to pick a new leader for Iran, following the assassination of Ali Khamenei. At the time, Trump said, “We don’t want to come back every five years or every 10 years and do this. So, we want to pick a president that’s not gonna be leading their country into a war.” Responding to his remarks, Colbert just had a brutal 7-word question to ask the president. It was “When can we pick one of those?” Colbert’s reaction sparked a massive cheer among the audience.

Moreover, Colbert also talked about the money that the president had spent on his war with Iran, which reportedly cost $6 billion. He said, “Yeah, it’s surprising. Did you know what you could buy with $6 billion? Twenty-seven Kristi Noem horsey commercials.” His remarks referred to the recent controversies surrounding Noem, which included the alleged spending of taxpayers’ money on ad campaigns and her harsh reaction to the Minneapolis situation. She was fired from the United States Secretary of Homeland Security position in light of backlash. Later, she was appointed as Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas.

The war began on February 28, 2026, when the US and Israel launched joint airstrikes on multiple sites in Iran. In the strikes, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Khamenei, was assassinated. Iran then counterattacked with missiles and drones across the Middle East, targeting Israel and U.S. military bases.
