Cody Simpson recently opened up about his breakup with Emma McKeon during an appearance on the We Need To Talk with Paul C Brunson podcast. The Australian singer and swimmer confirmed that the couple had gone their separate ways after four years together. While the news caught many fans off guard, Simpson spoke about the relationship in a positive light. He said the time they spent together meant a lot to him.
During the chat, Simpson also shared how their relationship first started. The two crossed paths in 2021 when he moved back to Australia from Los Angeles to focus on competitive swimming again. McKeon was already part of the training squad he had joined. Both athletes trained under the same coach, which naturally brought them together.
Simpson said he took time before letting his friendship with McKeon turn romantic. Training at the elite level requires serious focus. Simpson explained that mixing a relationship into that daily environment is not a small decision. “You have to put a lot of thought into whether that’s a bridge you want to cross with somebody that you know you’re going to be spending the next four years with every day,” he explained.
Simpson did not share a clear reason behind their split. Still, he looked back on the relationship with appreciation. He said the connection felt almost “inevitable” after spending so much time together. Simpson added that McKeon always supported his ambitions.
The relationship first kicked off in April 2022, but talk of a breakup started making the rounds last month. Simpson’s sister, Alli, confirmed that the two had gone their separate ways and both had already “moved on.” Since that update, Simpson has been seen hanging out in Los Angeles with American influencer Adelia Clark (via Daily Mail).
