During a March 9 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, Shepard shared that the brief romance dates back more than two decades. Speaking with guest Amanda Peet, the actor clarified that the pair were never in a serious relationship.
“I want to be clear,” Shepard said on the podcast. “We were not dating, dating.” He explained that he and Alba went on “a couple of dates” roughly 20 years ago when they were both younger actors navigating early stages of their careers.
The story resurfaced years later when Shepard and Alba reunited as co-stars in the 2017 Netflix dark comedy El Camino Christmas. According to Shepard, he initially worried the actress might not want their past to become common knowledge on set.
The actor recalled sitting in the makeup trailer and assuming Alba might prefer to keep the history quiet. But according to Shepard, the moment played out very differently than he expected.
“She yelled across from the other end, ‘Remember when we used to make out,’” Shepard recalled with a laugh. He added that the comment caught him off guard and left him feeling unexpectedly appreciated. “I was so flattered that she wasn’t embarrassed she had made out with me,” he said.
Since that time, both stars have moved forward with their personal lives. Shepard began dating actress Kristen Bell in 2007, and the couple married in 2013. Alba, meanwhile, has experienced major changes in her personal life in recent months. Her divorce from longtime partner Cash Warren was finalized last month after 16 years of marriage.
In addition, Alba has reportedly been dating actor Danny Ramirez since mid-2025. According to previously reported claims from sources, the pair are said to be growing serious, with speculation suggesting they may be considering marriage in the future.
