Glen Powell’s Sci-Fi Actioner Finds Streaming Success After Box-Office Failure

Glen Powell‘s sci-fi action movie The Running Man, which flopped at the box office and received middling reviews at the time of its release, has found huge success on streaming. Having found its audience and amassed a strong viewership, it has climbed to the top of the streaming analytics charts.

The Running Man ranks high on Paramount+ streaming charts

As of March 6, 2026, Glen Powell’s The Running Man is the #1 movie on Paramount+, according to data shared by FlixPatrol. Until yesterday, the film was in the #2 spot, outranked by Scary Movie, which is now in that place. This was due to the release of the new Scary Movie trailer.

As well as Scary Movie, The Running Man also bets Roofman (#3), Scary Movie 2 (#4), Due Justice (#5), Top Gun: Maverick, also starring Powell (#6), Scary Movie 3 (#7), The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (#8), Scream (#9), and Scream VI (#10).

The film, directed by Edgar Wright from a screenplay by him and Michael Bacall, is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel of the same name, following Paul Michael Glaser and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 movie. It first premiered at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on November 5, 2025, before dropping in theaters across the United Kingdom on November 12 and the United States on November 14. Following its release, it grossed only $68.6 million at the global box office against a $110 million budget.

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Running Man holds a fresh score of 62% and a decent audience score of 78%. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie has a Metascore of 56 and a user score of 5.7, both of which denote “mixed or average” reception.

Set in a dystopian future, the film’s story revolves around “The Running Man,” a television game show with the highest ratings, where contestants dubbed “Runners,” with the promise of a $1 billion cash reward, must survive for 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, and their every move is broadcast to a savage public. Convinced by the show’s producer and seeking money to provide for his ailing daughter, blue-collar worker Ben Richards joins the high-stakes game.
