Scary Movie’s Marlon Wayans Lists 3 Reasons for Part 6 Return

Scary Movie 6, which now has an earlier release date, will be the first iteration of the horror-comedy franchise to feature the Wayans family since 2001’s Scary Movie 2, and the youngest brother, Marlon, has now explained the reason for their return. In a recent interview, the actor/writer opened up about coming back to the cult-classic film series, all the while sharing what fans can expect from the upcoming sixth part.

Marlon Wayans explains his return to Scary Movie in Part 6

The comedy veteran has detailed three reasons that enabled him and his siblings to return to the Scary Movie franchise after a 25-year hiatus.

Marlon Wayans noted that his family’s Scary Movie comeback materialized due to the “dismantling of the Weinstein regime,” support from their father, Howell Stouten Wayans, who “wanted me and my brothers to work together again,” as well as “God,” who seemingly told him, “This is what you should be doing,” as per Entertainment Weekly.

Notably, the Wayans siblings parted ways with the Scary Movie franchise in 2001, well before the confirmation of a third movie. They decided to take such a grave step after disagreements occurred with executive producer and Dimension Films founder Bob Weinstein (via Men’s Journal).

“I got me and my brothers together to come back to a franchise that we were removed from. I think the assignment is to bring back the cast, bring back me and my brothers working together, and to bring back big-a– laughs. The world needs a big-a– laugh,” the White Chicks actor added.

Marlon Wayans also provided a brief description of the much-awaited Scary Movie 6, stating that it is much more than “a complete reboot, starting back where we began the franchise in 2000.” Labeling the forthcoming feature as a “rebooquel,” he remarked, “This movie is multi-generational. It’s a conversation comedically that is needed, that needs to be had from our generation down to…Gen Alpha. And it’s all inclusive.”

“We laughed all the way through. We let everyone have fun, we let them improvise, and you’re gonna see it all over this movie. All of these references,” Wayans added.

Previously scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2026, Scary Movie 6 will now premiere a week early on June 5.
