Sarah J. Maas Addresses Potential ‘ACOTAR’ TV Series on ‘Call Her Daddy’

Sarah J. Maas has finally given an update on a potential TV series based on “A Court of Thorns and Roses,” also known as “ACOTAR.” During her appearance on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, the acclaimed author stated that she needs control over the adaptation.

Sarah J. Maas says she wants ‘to be in charge’ of any future ‘ACOTAR’ TV series adaptations

Sarah J Maas: The Wait Is Over

In the February 4 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Sarah J. Maas revealed that the TV series adaptation plans are on hold following creative differences. She further shared that she is currently focused on finishing the book series. “Right now, my focus is on books. It’s been a little while since you guys have had something, so I’m focusing on that,” she said.

A TV series adaptation of “ACOTAR” was in development at Hulu back in 2021, with “Outlander” creator Ronald D. Moore involved as writer and showrunner. However, in 2024, Moore revealed that he was no longer working on the project because he had gone back to Sony.

In the same interview with Cooper, Maas also shared that she has bought back the rights to all her novels. This will allow her to have more creative control over the adaptation when it happens. She explained, “Any TV movie adaptation is kind of like another facet of the worlds that I’ve created, and it’s something that I want to be in charge of. Like, I want to be figuring out.”

Maas also wants to ensure that the fans of her books feel satisfied with the adaptation. “I want to see everything adapted the way I envision it, and the way I know fans want it. I don’t ever want to hear, ‘Oh, we need to change this to appeal to XYZ demographic.’ I’m like, ‘No, that’s not how you make art. That’s not how I create my stories,'” she added. So, whenever the series comes, fans can stay assured that Maas will make it exactly how they want to see it.
