Hijack Creator on if Sam & Marsha Could Be Back Together Season 3

The creator of Apple TV+’s thriller Hijack has finally addressed the burning question about Sam and Marsha’s relationship status heading into a potential Season 3.

Jim Field Smith explains Sam and Marsha’s bond in Hijack

Executive producer and writer Jim Field Smith offered insight into the complicated dynamic between the former spouses and why Hijack fans shouldn’t expect a simple reconciliation. When asked by Variety whether Marsha and Sam could get back together, Smith emphasized that Marsha is currently with Daniel (Max Beesley) this season. “She’s gone to get away from everybody, she’s not getting away from Daniel [specifically]. She needs that headspace,” he explained.

However, Smith acknowledged the undeniable connection between the two characters. “But of course, the big will they-won’t they of both seasons is obviously Sam and Marsha have this connection. I think there’s always going to be this bond between them.”

Additionally, the showrunner revealed that the Season 2 ending, with Sam calling Marsha and hearing her voice, was deliberately designed to highlight that. “It doesn’t matter whether romantically they’re involved or not. It’s just these are two people that are intimately connected.”

Speaking with TV Insider, Smith elaborated further on why a traditional romantic reunion misses the point of their journey. This Hijack season has focused on Sam and Marsha reaching a more understanding common ground rather than rekindling their marriage. “Yeah, exactly that and that’s why we ended the season with the phone call, which you don’t hear what they say to each other, but hopefully you can guess at what they might say to each other in that moment.”

Smith confirmed that whatever happens in a potential Hijack Season 3, Sam and Marsha won’t be getting back together romantically. “I like for people to imagine what that phone call the content of that phone call is, and I would like for people to imagine that’s probably not her going, ‘Oh, I want to take you back.’ It’s definitely not that.”
