Aaron Rodgers Sets the Record Straight on Retirement Talk

Aaron Rodgers shares his take on his impending retirement talk. Rodgers serves as a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and boasts remarkable fitness at 42. Previously, he had hinted on The Pat McAfee Show that he was “pretty sure” that the 2025 regular season would be the final one in his impressive NFL career. However, now it seems like Rodgers is in no hurry to make a decision regarding his NFL future and is using the current off-season to determine his next steps.

Aaron Rodgers addresses question surrounding his retirement status

Aaron Rodgers sets the record straight on retirement talk in his recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers shared, “Anybody on here that is expecting me to make some big decision, just turn it off now.” (via SportsRush).

Continuing further, the 42-year-old explained, “There’s conversations to be had down the line, but right now, there have not been any progressive conversations.”

Rodgers explained, “I’ve talked to Mike (McCarthy). I’ve talked to Omar (Khan). There’s been no deadline that’s been put in front of me. There’s no contract offer or anything, so there’s nothing that I’m having to debate between. I’m a free agent, and I’m enjoying my time with my wife and this part of the offseason.”

For those unversed, the Pittsburgh Steelers replaced head coach Mike Tomlin with Mike McCarthy. Interestingly, Rodgers shares a warm history with McCarthy going back to their time together with the Green Bay Packers. The duo spent 13 years together with the Green Bay Packers. The 42-year-old had nothing but kind words for McCarthy and believes he is the right coach for the Steelers. The quarterback shared, “I don’t think you can do better at this time in this franchise’s history than bringing in a guy like Mike McCarthy.” (via Pro Football Talk).

While Rodgers hasn’t committed to an actual answer, it appears he might want to return to the Steelers and play under McCarthy’s tenure. Notably, Khan shared on Tuesday, March 3, that they are in continuous discussions with Rodgers and would love to have him back on the team for another NFL season.

Khan stated, “We’d certainly welcome Aaron (Rodgers) back. We had a great experience with him (in 2025). There’s no deadline. All I’ll tell you guys is I don’t foresee this happening like last year.”
