Peacock’s Ted Season 3 Gets the Most Disappointing Update

Seth MacFarlane has commented on the future of Ted as the Peacock comedy prepares to return with its second season. The creator and star addressed whether the record-setting prequel series could continue beyond its upcoming installment.

Seth MacFarlane discusses Ted Season 3 prospects

During an interview with ScreenRant while discussing Ted Season 2, MacFarlane said that “as of now, there are no direct plans” to continue the live-action show. The comment confirms that MacFarlane and the creative team have not planned a third season at this time.

MacFarlane created the Peacock series as a prequel to the Ted films from the 2010s. The story follows the sentient teddy bear Ted and teenager John Bennett as they grow up together in Boston. Max Burkholder plays John, taking over the role from Mark Wahlberg, alongside Scott Grimes, Alanna Ubach, and Giorgia Whigham.

Ted Season 1 received a positive reception and strong viewership, leading Peacock to renew the show for a second season. The debut season recorded a 74 percent critics’ score and a 90 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Those ratings placed the series above the approval scores received by both Ted films. This marked the franchise’s highest ratings recorded.

The prequel series focuses on John Bennett’s teenage life and begins during his junior year of high school. Ted Season 2 moves the story into John’s senior year, which limits how long the show can remain within that stage of his life. This timeline gives the series a defined endpoint before the story eventually connects with the adult events depicted in the films.

High production costs have also influenced discussions about the show’s future. Reports indicated that the series costs about $8 million per episode because the CGI character appears in most scenes, bringing Season 1’s total budget to nearly $70 million.

MacFarlane also said that the absence of plans applies only “for now,” leaving open the possibility that the live-action series could continue later.
