Gayle King Ends CBS Mornings Exit Rumors With New Update

As CBS News continues to plan major shifts to its programming, rumors about Gayle King leaving the network have circulated widely online. After months of speculation, new developments have finally clarified her future at the network, putting an end to the ongoing uncertainty.

Gayle King renews her CBS contract

King addressed the uncertainty surrounding her future in a statement. “Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated,” she said, referencing an October Variety report that claimed she was expected to leave the show when her contract expired in May.

At the time, sources indicated King might shift to a production deal or other role within the company. “CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission,” King added. “I’m excited about continuing at ‘CBS Mornings.’ It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in” (via WSJ).

The new agreement is seen as a win for CBS News and its new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss. King’s decision to recommit comes at a time of major transition for the network, which recently lost longtime 60 Minutes contributor Anderson Cooper. While financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed, King’s previous salary was approximately $14 million to $15 million annually, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Furthermore, Gayle King’s return also provides stability for CBS Mornings, a program that has been trailing its competitors in the ratings. Recent data shows the show attracting just under 1.78 million viewers, placing it third behind NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America. The show has also seen a dip in ad revenue, falling from $131.8 million in 2024 to roughly $119.2 million in 2025 (via Variety).

Weiss celebrated the renewal, stating, “We’re so proud that she’ll continue to call CBS home. We’re thrilled to have her on in the morning—and equally excited to work with her on new, enterprising projects that bring her talents to new audiences.” This hints at a broader role for King, potentially leveraging the upcoming merger of Paramount Skydance with Warner Bros. Discovery.
