Jimmy Kimmel Calls Donald Trump ‘Nutjob Wannabe King’ While Mocking SOTU

Donald Trump’s first official State of the Union speech of his second presidential term has garnered much backlash from his doubters, specifically veteran comedian Jimmy Kimmel. The season television host slammed the businessman-turned-politician’s address to Congress on his talk show, going as far as to compare Trump to the Grinch on Christmas.

The February 24 episode of the 58-year-old TV host’s talk show saw him take apart the current US President’s State of the Union address in what was an explosive monologue.

Jimmy Kimmel quipped that Donald Trump’s oration was just an “angry” rant, before describing it as “a Christmas message from the Grinch.” He even mocked the lengthy nature of the Republican’s speech, which clocked in at a historic 1 hour and 47 minutes.

“When you ramble mostly incoherently for two hours, is that technically still a speech, or does it, at some point, become a conniption fit?” Kimmel joked on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He added, “He’s probably still going, right? They do need to hire an orchestra to play him off like the Oscars. At the stroke of 90 minutes, go straight into ‘YMCA’ and end it.”

The Crank Yankers alum then included a clever wordplay, suggesting that the “real state of the union” was that the country was being led by a “nutjob wannabe king.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert, a long-time critic of the current president, echoed his fellow comedian’s sentiments in the subsequent episode of his late-night talk show. Claiming that Trump’s SOTU address “really wasn’t much new material,” he noted, “It was a dark speech, filled with divisive lies, and it’s unlikely to win him much support with the voters who have grown disenchanted with the chaos and dysfunction of his second administration.”

Since then, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson has hit back at Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert for their comments on Donald Trump. While referring to the tribute given by the President to Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe and young Dalilah Coleman, Jackson told USA Today, “It’s disappointing, but not shocking, that these low-rating, late-night losers would dismiss and smear these patriotic Americans – these types of deranged takes are why no one cares about their so-called shows.”
