Joy Behar Says She Was ‘Physically Ill’ While Watching Trump’s SOTU

Joy Behar recently shared her views on President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech. During her recent appearance, she revealed that she watched Trump’s entire speech and felt “physically ill” by the way he portrayed immigrants negatively. She further reflected on her immigrant roots, noting that her family left Italy for a better future in the U.S.

Moreover, it did not sit well with Behar that Vice President JD Vance and Speaker Mike Johnson appeared to agree with the President’s claims about immigration and the economy.

Joy Behar calls out Donald Trump’s SOTU address

Behar expressed her thoughts after watching Trump’s State of the Union address during her appearance on The View. She said, “I watched the whole thing, and I was physically ill from it — and more nauseous than usual, watching him. The way he was demonizing immigrants made me sick.”

The comedian and TV host reflected on how the country had earlier welcomed immigrants with open arms. Sharing her personal story, she elaborated, “My family left Italy because there was no work in southern Italy, and they came here. That’s why I’m sitting here today. It made me feel really sad. That’s the reason America has been what it is.”

She also expressed her frustration with how JD Vance and Johnson appeared behind Trump and seemed to agree with all his false claims. “[ I ]was furious and scared as Bert and Ernie kept jumping up behind him. Every time he lied, ‘The economy is great,’ these idiots would [say] ‘Yay.’ [He’d say] immigrants are the problem? ‘Yay!’ It was sickening to watch.”

Earlier, Joy Behar also sided with Democrats who did not attend the State of the Union, even though co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines believed they should have attended to show decorum. “I disagree because I don’t think that he’s really that. He’s a legitimate president in my lifetime, and that includes Nixon and Reagan, both conservative Republicans that I did not vote for. Neither one of them have, would behave the way this man behaves.”

The 83-year-old further clarified that she called the President illegitimate based on his lack of understanding of his responsibilities. Therefore, she thinks the only way for the Democrats to make a point was to skip the address (via Fox News).
