Gavin Newsom Reveals the Insult Donald Trump Allegedly Threw at Jared Kushner

California Governor Gavin Newsom is shedding light on a private moment aboard Marine One that exposed the dynamics within the Trump family, and it involves an insult aimed directly at Jared Kushner. In his new memoir, “Young Man In A Hurry”, Newsom recounts a 2018 conversation with then-President Donald Trump that reportedly left Kushner humiliated in front of two governors.

The revelation is about a trip Trump took to California in 2018 after wildfires devastated the state. According to a review of Gavin Newsom’s book in The Atlantic, the president was sitting on Marine One with him, former California Governor Jerry Brown, and Jared Kushner when he decided to share a personal story about his daughter Ivanka.

Trump allegedly told the group that he had tried to set his daughter, Ivanka Trump, up with NFL legend Tom Brady. However, he soon discovered she was “already dating some schmuck whose father got out of prison.” The comment was a clear reference to Jared, whose father, Charles, served time in federal prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion and witness tampering in 2005.

Gavin Newsom described the moment as painfully awkward. “In front of the governor and future governor of California, Trump was making his son-in-law feel two feet tall,” he writes. “And Kushner just let him do it.”

Charles later received a pardon from Trump at the end of the president’s first term. In 2024, following Trump’s second election victory, the president announced on Truth Social that he would appoint Charles as the U.S. ambassador to France (via The Independent).

Jared married Ivanka in 2009 and served as a senior advisor during Trump’s first term. While he holds no official position in the second Trump administration, reports indicate he has remained involved in sensitive foreign policy matters. Jared has reportedly supported special envoy Steve Witkoff in his mission to bring peace between Israel and Hamas, raising concerns among critics who question his lack of formal diplomatic experience.
