LeBron James on Relationship With Jaylen Brown Amid Bronny Criticism

The NBA spotlight has been shining bright on Bronny James ever since he made his college basketball debut, but amidst all the discussion around the NBA star’s son’s journey, the bond between LeBron James and Jaylen Brown is raising eyebrows. The basketball legend recently spoke about his connection with the Boston Celtics player, who hadn’t shied away from expressing his criticism of LeBron’s eldest son’s rise to fame.

The NBA all-time leading scorer has shed light on his bond with the Boston Celtics shooting guard after the latter questioned his son, Bronny James’ basketball prowess.

After the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent 111-89 loss to the Celtics, LeBron James was asked about his relationship with Jaylen Brown. “Our relationship has been pretty respectful, besides the s**t he said about Bronny in Summer League,” the 41-year-old replied.

“But other than that, we’ve been all right,” James added, according to Celtics on CLNS. “We’ll be all right. We’ll be alright. I think he went on social media and said something about it — it’s all good. Bronny has a long way to go, but that’s another story.”

Notably, LeBron’s eldest son aspires to follow in his footsteps in the NBA. They currently share the court as teammates on the LA Lakers. The duo made history as the NBA’s first active father-son pair. They even marked a milestone in October 2024 with their inaugural shared game.

However, even before stepping onto the NBA court, the 21-year-old faced skepticism, with Brown reportedly questioning his professional potential during a 2024 Summer League game. In a viral video, he was overheard telling WNBA players Angel Reese and Kysre Gondrezick, his ex-girlfriend, that Bronny James wasn’t a “pro,” with the exchange captured on camera.

Surprisingly, Jaylen Brown later walked back his comments on social media. The 29-year-old stated that LeBron James’ son has “all the tools” to make it in the NBA. Now, it seems like the doting parent never forgot the negative remark and has responded. However, LeBron also praised Brown’s basketball skills, even suggesting his name for the MVP title.

Meanwhile, Bronny James is dividing his time between the LA Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, for the 2025-26 season. He has been alternating between the two teams to further develop his skills. The young athlete recently posted averages of 9.5 points and 4.5 assists per game in the G League.
