The GoFundMe page to support the late actor Eric Dane‘s family was temporarily paused for review. The fundraising platform initiated a verification process for both the organiser and the beneficiary of the page.

Eric Dane’s GoFundMe paused amid review

The GoFundMe page, titled “In Honor of Eric Dane,” recently came under a routine review by the company over the weekend. Donations to the campaign were temporarily paused while the organizer and beneficiary went through a standard verification process. A spokesperson for GoFundMe has released a statement addressing the situation.

“Our Trust and Safety team is still looking into this GoFundMe and has reached out to the organizer to gather additional information,” the spokesperson told the San Francisco Chronicle. “All funds are being safely held by our payment processors during this review process.”

On Sunday, GoFundMe confirmed that they have verified the campaign for the late Grey’s Anatomy star’s family. They have also added his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, as the beneficiary. Dane’s close friends launched the fundraiser page to help support Dane’s two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia.

Mike McGuiness, a longtime friend of Dane’s, reportedly set up the campaign. In a now-edited Instagram post, he stated, “Covid and ALS did a number on his work life and he sadly couldn’t leave his family with the resources he had hoped. A GoFundMe is being made and I will post it on my story for anyone able to help.” There is no official mention of McGuiness in the fundraiser page.

Eric Dane passed away on February 19, 2026, after a months-long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The official description of the GoFundMe page reads, “Following his diagnosis, Eric became a passionate spokesperson for the ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for fellow patients and to push for greater awareness. Even as his own health declined, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease.”

It adds, “As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs.” As of now, the campaign has raised $337k out of its goal of $500K.
