A second fan sarcastically wrote, “We should’ve known canada was gonna lose the second noah schnapp showed up in their jersey.” A third fan penned, “Who let Noah Schnapp wear a Team Canada jersey… absolutely not my culture is not your costume.”

However, a few fans rallied in the 21-year-old actor’s support, pointing out the fact that he holds dual citizenship. One fan explained, “For context: his parents are Canadian despite being born in America. All it takes is a Google search y’all.” A second fan chimed in, “It’s actually pretty cool to see him showing up for his Canadian heritage despite the inevitable backlash from US fans.”

In a 2017 interview with the Montréal Canadiens’ official site, Schnapp revealed he also has Canadian citizenship and that his “whole family” lives in Montreal. The Stranger Things star declared himself a “true-to-heart Habs fan.” Additionally, he shared that his connection to Montréal is “very personal.”
