In the build-up to the release of Elsbeth Season 3 Part 2, Carrie Preston has shared plot developments fans can expect to uncover in the next few episodes of the police procedural comedy-drama. The actress opened up about the upcoming midseason premiere in a recent interview, revealing that viewers will find Elsbeth and her son Teddy (Ben Levi Ross) going through a “tense” patch in the second half of the third season.
Carrie Preston says things will get ‘tense’ with Teddy in Elsbeth Season 3 Part 2
The True Blood alumna recently noted that the titular attorney will kick off Season 3 Part 2 by continuing to doubt Teddy’s reservations regarding mayoral candidate Alec Bloom (Ivan Hernandez).
Notably, Season 3 Part 1’s ending sees Elsbeth’s journalist son uncover several loopholes in Alec’s philanthropic deeds and his history of being homeless. However, Elsbeth, who is currently dating the politician, refuses to take Teddy’s discovery at face value, creating tension between the two.
“Teddy is definitely Elsbeth’s son, and so he is not afraid to keep digging about things and get down to the bottom of something,” Carrie Preston revealed to TV Insider. “He has a sneaking suspicion [that] there’s something not quite right about Alec Bloom, whom Elsbeth is dating. And so there’s a question there. Is he making things up? Is what we’re seeing on the surface real? What’s politics, what isn’t? It gets a little bit tense because Elsbeth is not willing to see that and doesn’t believe her son. So there is a little bit of tension there. The heart and the head maybe aren’t speaking to each other.”
As to why Elsbeth doesn’t believe her son’s instincts, Preston explained that “she hasn’t seen that” side of Teddy yet, adding “everybody has their own blind spots.”
Per Preston, having also lost her best friend in Kaya (Carra Patterson), Elsbeth will aim to “add more people into her life, have more of a social life, put herself out there, more dates, and all of these things that maybe she wouldn’t have really thought about before,” in Season 3 Part 2.
Despite delving deep into the complications of relationships, the second half of Season 3 will still revolve around Elsbeth’s investigative adventures. “The struggles are more about the cases,” Carrie Preston confirmed.
Meanwhile, Elsbeth Season 3 returns with new episodes on CBS on February 26.
