“We literally bought every pair we could. The largest sock manufacturer produces about 1.8 million pairs per day in its factory,” a McDonald’s franchise owner shared on X (formerly Twitter) on February 17. “We sold just under 20M Grinch socks in the US alone, and it took many months to secure this supply and have it delivered to the restaurants.”
The claim followed a viral post by Pat Buckley. He said McDonald’s briefly became the world’s top sock seller, shifting 50 million pairs globally via their Grinch meal deal. The franchisee further noted that their sales figures translated to socks for roughly 7.4% of US adults.
The Grinch Meal, launched in December as part of McDonald’s holiday deals, featured a selection of festive goodies. The socks, adorned with the lovable grouch himself, were the perfect accompaniment.
