Ex-Prince Andrew once blew $38k in birthday celebrations, reveals author
The Daily Mail reported that in Entitled: The Rise And Fall Of The House Of York, royal biographer Andrew Lownie recounts how ex-Prince Andrew marked his 40th birthday celebration in 2000 with his ex, Sarah Ferguson. Now, on closer look, it was a series of high-profile events.
The former Duke of York began the day with a private ride on the London Eye alongside his ex‑wife and their daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. According to the author, the family used their own capsule, and members of the public had to wait for a while before boarding due to security arrangements. And even then, it was only the start.
That evening, Ferguson reportedly organized a “This Is Your Life”‑themed party at Sunninghill Park in Ascot, which reportedly cost £30,000. Lownie wrote, “Sarah Ferguson had organised a thirty-minute video tribute based on the television programme This Is Your Life, featuring among others Elton John, and in honour of Andrew’s Royal Navy service, staff had laid out the canapes around models of ships and helicopters, and a fleet of tiny wooden ships on each table.”
The following month, the celebrations continued. Andrew attended another major event, the “Dance of the Decades,” which also marked milestone birthdays for Princess Anne, Princess Margaret, and the Queen Mother. Notably, around 800 guests attended the black‑tie gathering.
