Amanda Seyfried has revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes secret about her role in the hit thriller The Housemaid, admitting she had no idea she was also a producer on the film until weeks into filming.
Amanda Seyfried wasn’t aware of her EP credit for The Housemaid
The psychological thriller, featuring Sydney Sweeney in the lead role, has been climbing the box office charts, approaching an impressive $367 million worldwide. But for Seyfried, the film came with an unexpected title she never asked for.
During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the Oscar nominee opened up about discovering her executive producer credit on the Paul Feig-directed adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling 2022 novel.
“Can I tell you something? I’m a producer on it,” Seyfried shared with the audience. “But I didn’t know until three weeks in, when I saw the call sheet, and I was like, ‘Executive producer? I didn’t sign up for that.'” The revelation prompted Seyfried to reach out to one of the Housemaid’s producers for answers. She learned that her agent had quietly negotiated the credit as part of her contract without informing her.
When asked about her actual production contributions, Seyfried kept it honest. “I didn’t do s— to make that movie. I only acted in it,” she admitted, calling it “one of those vanity credits.” Amanda Seyfried drew a clear distinction between her situation and fellow guest Margot Robbie’s hands-on producing work. “That’s the thing about vanity credits,” she explained. “I don’t want people to get it twisted. What Margot does is really intensely developing movies from jump. I just jumped in, had a bunch of fun, and left.”
Her involvement in The Housemaid was strictly performance-based, playing Nina Winchester opposite Sweeney’s Millie and Brandon Sklenar’s Andrew. The film follows Millie, a woman who takes a live-in housemaid position for a wealthy couple, only to discover their home harbors dark secrets.
Despite the accidental producer title, Seyfried isn’t complaining about the outcome. “I’m like, they’re sending me on a vacation,” she joked, acknowledging the film’s massive success.
