As ex-Prince Andrew is turning 66, he has reportedly been eligible to claim a whopping amount as a pension. Reportedly, royals do not generally receive this privilege, but the former Duke of York’s Navy background would make him eligible. His brother, King Charles, has also been receiving a pension, but the monarch has always donated it to a charity. Therefore, an expert suggested that Andrew, too, should follow the same path. They reportedly urged the ex-royal to reject the payout.
Ex-Prince Andrew should do the ‘right thing’ and donate hefty pension, says expert
Ex-Prince Andrew would be eligible to claim his £7,000-a-year state pension on February 19, as he turns 66. It would be a source of income, but an expert urged him to walk away from the payout. Royal author Phil Dampier told The Sun that the former duke should do the “right thing” and donate the hefty amount to charity.
Furthermore, he mentioned that this move could reportedly “improve the reputation” of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The expert suggested that the father of two could donate the state pension to “maybe even Eugenie’s charity, combating modern slavery and human trafficking, The Anti-Slavery Collective.”
For those unversed, Andrew’s image took a downfall due to his past scandals. He was stripped of his royal title and duties, and had to leave his forever home, The Royal Lodge. He had lived in the Windsor estate for over two decades, sharing it with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and their daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.
Recently, the outlet reported that he would be eligible to receive a state pension. Although the privilege is uncommon among royals, Andrew could claim it because he paid National Insurance Contributions. He made the payments while he served in the Royal Navy for 22 years. Due to the same reason, King Charles has been receiving a hefty pension, reportedly for eleven years. The monarch has allegedly been donating it to a charity.
