Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from royal duties in 2020 raised many eyebrows. However, as per an author, in December 2022, the Sussexes made a “declaration of war” on Prince William and Kate Middleton by hijacking their US trip.
In his new biography, “William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” the Mirror‘s royal editor, Russell Myers, revealed that just three months after the Queen’s passing, the Prince and Princess of Wales were set off on a three-day trip to Boston to celebrate the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards, a cause close to William’s heart. The royal couple was present for the event from November 30 to December 2, 2022.
However, on 1 December, the first trailer for Sussexes Netflix docuseries was released, and this “in royal circles” was considered a “blatant attempt to hijack the Waleses’ visit.”
Looking at the timing, as per Mirror, Myers revealed that “the next day the Daily Mail, quoting royal sources, called it a ‘declaration of war,’ while The Times presented the Sussexes as ‘Self-styled victims’ who were ‘pulling no punches.'”
However, the author suggested that “the Sussexes may or may not have had anything to do with the timing of the release, but they must have understood the consternation it would cause.”
And it looks like the author was not the only one who felt so. At the time, a royal expert, Jonathan Sacerdoti, also shared the same thoughts.
“To drop it as they have on the first or second day of the Prince and Princess of Wales’s trip to the U.S. for the Earthshot Prize shows just exactly how much they wanted to hijack that publicity,” Sacerdoti exclusively told Us Weekly.
The expert further expressed that this shows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will “go to any end at all for as much publicity as possible” to “steal that limelight and get more attention.”
