Sony Pictures Television shares the first images for SWAT Exiles series

Sony Pictures Television recently shared the first stills from SWAT Exiles ahead of the scheduled 2026 showcase with Variety. The showcase will take place at the London TV Screenings the following week, with the SWAT spin-off expected to have a major presence there.

The stills highlight Shemar Moore’s returning protagonist, Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr., and other cast members.

Production on the spin-off began on October 9, 2025, and wrapped up on February 10, 2026. At the time of the production’s commencement, Moore teased on Instagram that the spin-off had SWAT’s familiar DNA and that it would be “raw, real, and gritty,” in addition to being “a fresh new creative take through the eyes of [showrunner] Jason Ning” on the franchise’s story.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Moore stressed that Exiles, which he labeled “SWAT 2.0,” would be “bigger, better, and edgier.” He also promised fans a “darker, more intense” portrayal of Hondo (via TVLine).

Ning, also an executive producer on the show, said that SWAT Exiles would honor the original series but also reinvent the formula via a “scrappier, more character-driven lens.”

The story takes place after “a high-profile mission” goes wrong, according to the official logline. It sees Hondo return from forced retirement to lead a “last-chance experimental” SWAT team. The team consists of young recruits, who are untrained and “unpredictable.” However, the job proves difficult as Hondo finds himself dealing with three different yet interconnected tasks: bridging a generational gap, handling contrasting personalities, and turning his team into officers capable of both protecting the city and saving the program that defines him.

In addition to starring in the series, Shemar Moore serves as an executive producer alongside Ning and Neal H. Moritz. Apart from Moore, SWAT Exiles stars Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubenstein.
