Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2020 exit from the royal family significantly changed family dynamics. Prince William and Harry, who were once very close, now have a rift between them — one that Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, says won’t be resolved anytime soon.
Harry and Markle decided to step down from their royal duties in 2020 due to intense media scrutiny. Another alleged reason for the exit was that they didn’t receive sufficient support from the palace. Burrell, however, notes that their exit came at a huge cost.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid a huge price for exiting Royal Family, says expert
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as senior royals in 2020 shook the entire monarchy. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Montecito to embark on a new journey, one away from their royal world. However, Paul Burrell reportedly says that their exit came at a steep price.
Burrell told Fox News that their exit shattered the royal family’s unity. He said that Markle and Harry appeared on national TV and discussed their family matters. This damaged their relationship with the royal family beyond repair.
Burrell continued, “The royals don’t do that. The royals keep tight, and they keep close to each other. Look at the difference between William and Kate and Meghan and Harry. A huge world apart. Those two worlds will never come together again.”
The Sussexes’ exit also deeply affected King Charles, according to Burrell. He claimed that since Harry’s kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are being raised in Montecito, the King hasn’t been able to form a bond with them.
Burrell also noted that this is not just sad for the King, but also for Archie and Lilibet, who didn’t get the chance to explore the royal world. He said, “Their father came from that world, and they will never know their cousins and the people who populate that world.”
“It’s sad for the King, who can’t embrace all his grandchildren at the same time. He can’t put his arms around Archie and Lilibet the same way that he can around [William’s children] George, Charlotte, and Louis. I think he’s very sad.”
