Donald Trump Threatens Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnappers With Death Penalty

Donald Trump has issued a warning to the individuals responsible for kidnapping Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. The US President stated that the abductors will face the “most severe” federal penalties if they harm her.

Speaking in a brief phone interview with The Post on February 16, Donald Trump made clear his position on the case that has gripped the nation since Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1.

The president stated that those holding Nancy must release her unharmed immediately. When asked specifically about consequences, should the elderly woman be killed, Trump said he would want the Justice Department to pursue capital punishment. He described the abductors as facing “very, very severe — the most severe” federal consequences if she is found dead.

Asked directly if that meant the DOJ would request the death penalty, Trump answered: “The most, yeah — that’s true.” Furthermore, Trump personally called Savannah Guthrie on February 4 to offer federal assistance in the case. The FBI has since become involved in the investigation, which has yielded doorbell-camera footage showing a masked man wearing gloves and a backpack at the suburban home’s front door.

Over the weekend, authorities launched flights above the desert region carrying a high-tech Bluetooth device in hopes of locating a signal from Nancy’s pacemaker. The innovative search technique reflects the urgency of finding the woman. Officials have warned she may be at severe risk without her medication.

Investigators are currently analyzing DNA found on a glove recovered from a field approximately two miles from Nancy’s home. The FBI announced on February 15 that the glove appears to match one worn by the suspect in the doorbell-camera footage taken the night Nancy went missing.

Savannah has issued a heartfelt plea for her mother’s safe return two weeks after her disappearance. In her latest video appeal, she shared, “whoever has her, or knows where she is,” to come forward. She added that Nancy’s loved ones “still have hope” (via BBC).
