According to a recent rumor, a major Marvel actor was offered a role in Matt Reeves‘ highly anticipated The Batman 2, but rejected it. The upcoming DC film has already reportedly added two major Marvel stars, Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, to its cast. Plot details for the movie, expected to begin filming during Spring 2026, are being kept under wraps.
Stellan Skarsgård reportedly rejected The Batman 2 role
In the latest episode of John Rocha’s The Hot Mic podcast, prominent insider Jeff Sneider claimed that Stellan Skarsgård has passed on the offer to play Christopher Dent, Harvey Dent’s father, in The Batman 2. The Oscar-nominated actor previously played Dr. Erik Selvig in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing a prominent supporting role in the first two Thor films.
Another actor has not yet been reported to have been cast in the role of Christopher Dent. Previously, Brad Pitt was rumored to have been up for the part but declined on account of scheduling conflicts.
The rumor about Skarsgård turning down the role comes one month after Deadline’s Justin Kroll shared in an appearance on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox that there was “one big [role] left” to cast in the film. He described it as an “older role,” which may be Harvey Dent’s father.
While Christopher Dent remains uncast as of writing, Harvey Dent is rumored to have been cast. Marvel star Sebastian Stan has been speculated to be stepping into the role of the former district attorney-turned-criminal. Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson, who has also boarded the film in an undisclosed role, is rumored to be playing the character’s wife, Gilda.
The Batman Part II is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 1, 2027. Matt Reeves, who has co-written the film’s script with Mattson Tomlin as well as reprising his role as director, revealed in an interview with Variety last year that filming will begin “around the end of April or beginning of May.”
