Winter Olympics athletes are relishing special Olympic rings-shaped pasta on February 11. Notably, the Olympic Village served this dish to the competing athletes. The Olympics’ official Instagram post showed athletes loading their plates with the special pasta. The International Olympic Committee announced the special pasta back in October.
Olympic Rings-shaped pasta goes viral among Winter Olympics athletes
Winter Olympics athletes are enjoying special Olympic rings-shaped pasta. The Olympics’ official Instagram account shared a carousel showcasing athletes letting their hair down and relishing the special delicacy. The carousel was accompanied by the caption, “The Olympic Rings Pasta takeover. Today, we surprised our Olympians with a delicious feast. Warning: these photos might make you hungry!”
Unfortunately, the pasta is not available for sale or served in restaurants. Photographers captured athletes from France, Great Britain, Italy, Ukraine, and more relishing the ring-shaped pasta in the cafeteria. Athletes could enjoy pasta in interesting flavors and sauces, such as marinara, butter, meat sauce, and more (via PEOPLE).
The International Olympic Committee revealed that Italy has produced this limited-edition pasta. At the time, they revealed on the website that it was to “celebrate the 100-day countdown to the Games.”
Hence, it comes as no surprise that the post has garnered 114K likes, 21.9K shares, 501 retweets, and 382 comments. Fans are loving the Olympic rings-shaped pasta and are hoping the committee makes it available for public consumption. One fan commented, “Wish we could buy the pasta!!” A second fan wrote, “The missed opportunity is not selling this shape during the games.”
A third fan requested the special pasta recipe, “How did they make this? We need a video. This is the Olympics!!!!” A fourth fan remarked, “WE NEED THESE! And also the ring glasses too. Where can I find these?!” A fifth fan penned, “Imagine you’re eating Olympic ring pasta with medal-shaped sausage.”
Reuters reported on February 3 that pasta is a hot-favorite food option among athletes in the Olympic Village. The Milan village whips up 4,500 meals every day, of which nearly 4,000 are for the Olympic athletes in Cortina and 2,300 in Predazzo.
