Nicole Curtis’s usage of the n-word while filming Rehab Addict led to the cancellation of the show the same day it was about to return to television. In a clip shared by Radar Online, Curtis utters the word before realizing that she shouldn’t have. She even asks to “kill” the moment. The video went viral, receiving massive attention. Shortly after, HGTV canceled her show, releasing a statement confirming the reason. The network said to PEOPLE, “[We were] recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict.  Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees – it does not align with the values of HGTV.”

It also revealed that they have removed the series from all the platforms of HGTV. Furthermore, the network added, “We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace,” the statement continued.” Following the cancellation, Curtis spoke with TMZ, apologizing publicly for using the n-word. She said, “I want to be clear. The word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary, and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”

She also later took to her Instagram stories to share the screenshots of her conversation with the outlet. In the texts, she wrote, “I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment, is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is.”

In another story, she also revealed that her family is currently her top priority. She mentioned that there is more to the situation, but said she will not address it at this time. She wants to take some time before speaking openly and honestly about it.
