Even with an Olympic medal hanging around his neck, he admitted the celebration felt complicated. The spotlight moment, he said, was clouded by what’s been happening in his personal life.
Speaking honestly in the interview, Lægreid shared that there was someone special he wished could have been there with him, though he wasn’t sure she was even watching. Reflecting on the past few months, he revealed that he met “the love of my life” about six months ago, calling her the most beautiful and kindest person he’s ever known. But three months later, he said, he made what he described as the “biggest mistake“ of his life and cheated on her.
He did not reveal the woman’s name, but said he told her about the affair roughly a week earlier, calling it the “worst week” of his life.
