Olympian Sturla Holm Lægreid’s Cheating Confession on Live TV Goes Viral

Fresh off a podium finish at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid delivered an emotional television interview that quickly went viral on social media. Moments after earning bronze in the men’s 20 km biathlon, the Olympian tearfully admitted to being unfaithful to his partner, calling the days leading up to the race “the worst week of my life.”

Sturla Holm Lægreid confesses to cheating on his partner

Sturla Lægreid, 29, opened up in a candid chat with Norwegian outlet NRK after finishing third in the 20 km race at the Milano Cortina Winter Games. Even with an Olympic medal hanging around his neck, he admitted the celebration felt complicated. The spotlight moment, he said, was clouded by what’s been happening in his personal life.

Speaking honestly in the interview, Lægreid shared that there was someone special he wished could have been there with him, though he wasn’t sure she was even watching. Reflecting on the past few months, he revealed that he met “the love of my life” about six months ago, calling her the most beautiful and kindest person he’s ever known. But three months later, he said, he made what he described as the “biggest mistake“ of his life and cheated on her.

He did not reveal the woman’s name, but said he told her about the affair roughly a week earlier, calling it the “worst week” of his life. Holding back tears, he said he once felt like he had the “gold medal” in life, even if others might see it differently. Lægreid clarified that she is the only person he cares about and admitted that, over the past few days, sport has “come second.”

Lægreid said winning bronze pushed him to speak up. He explained that he tries to set a good example, but made a foolish mistake. He said it was important to admit when he had done something he could not defend and had deeply hurt someone he loved.

Lægreid is one of Norway’s top biathletes and a regular presence on the World Cup circuit, making his candid admission all the more striking at one of sport’s biggest stages.
