Jack Black & Eli Roth’s Hit Comedy Horror Movie Sets Netflix Streaming Date

An eight-year old fantasy film starring Jack Black and directed by Eli Roth will be added to Netflix next month. The House with a Clock in Its Walls seamlessly blends horror, comedy, fantasy, and sci-fi elements and proved to be a surprise hit at the box office.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls begins streaming on Netflix in March

The film will be available to stream on Netflix starting Sunday, March 1, 2026.

It is adapted from John Bellairs’ 1973 book of the same name. The story centers on Lewis, who moves to Michigan to live with his uncle Jonathan at his eerie mansion. On his first night there, he hears a mysterious ticking sound.

Lewis soon learns that his uncle is a warlock and his neighbor, Florence, is a witch. They tell him about the doomsday clock built inside the walls. Later, Lewis accidentally resurrects the evil wizard and his wife using forbidden magic, and works with Jonathan and Florence to stop him.

The movie stars Jack Black as Jonathan Barnavelt, Cate Blanchett as Florence Zimmerman, Owen Vaccaro as Lewis Barnavelt, Kyle MacLachlan as Isaac Izard, and Renée Elise Goldsberry as Selena Izard, among others.

Eli Roth directed the movie with a screenplay by Eric Kripke. Roth is widely known for creating the highly popular R-rated horror series Hostel. The House With a Clock In Its Walls was one of his first PG-rated movies. It opened to $26.9 million.

Released on September 21, 2018, the movie received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. Currently, it has a 65% Tomatometer score based on 219 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie ended its theatrical run with global box office earnings of more than $131 million.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, Inc., served as one of the production studios for the movie. Furthermore, Universal Pictures distributed the movie in the United States, while Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures handled it internationally.
