Thrilling Shark Film Sequel Under Paris 2 Receives Major Update

The sequel to a highly successful Netflix shark movie has received a major update after a long wait. Under Paris, a French action-horror disaster film, originally premiered on the streaming giant in June 2024 and became a big hit. The sequel was greenlit in November that year. Subsequently, reports published in April 2025 claimed that the project was in the scripting stage.

Under Paris 2 finds its director

Under Paris 2 has found its director in Alexandre Aja, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Aja’s previous credits include The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, the Daniel Radcliffe-led Horns, and the Halle Berry-led film Never Let Go. He will replace Xavier Gens, the director of the first movie. Gens has not yet revealed why he will not be directing the second film.

Under Paris tells the story of Bérénice Bejo’s Sophia, who must navigate past trauma to figure out why some sharks are now able to live in the fresh water of the River Seine and save Paris. Bejo is expected to reprise her role in the film’s sequel.

The other members of the cast of the original film include Nassim Lyes as Adil, Léa Léviant as Mika, Sandra Parfait as Caro, Aurélia Petit as Angèle, and Marvin Dubart as Markus, among others.

Bejo was the one who originally confirmed that Under Paris 2 is happening. She also discussed when the movie could begin production. “In September 2025, we will shoot Under Paris 2 [Sous La Seine 2]. It will not be a simple sequel. It is another film, very different…but still, with a shark,” she said during an interview. Gens then said that the project was in the script stage in April 2025.

Under Paris currently has a 64% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 42 reviews. The movie is available for streaming on Netflix.
