The series adaptation of the Harry Potter saga has sent ripples of excitement through the wizarding world, captivating fans and fueling speculation. Amidst the fervor, one star of the beloved franchise has broken his silence on the prospect of revisiting Hogwarts. The cherished actor has confessed he’s “sick” of constant chatter about the franchise’s return.
Harry Potter actor rules out the possibility of his character’s return
David Thewlis has firmly ruled out the prospect of his character’s return in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
In a recent interview, the actor who played Remus Lupin admitted he’s tired of discussing a potential return to the Harry Potter franchise, including the upcoming HBO series. Notably, he skipped the 2022 reunion special Return to Hogwarts, suggesting he’s keen to move on.
“I feel like I’d be far too old to play my original character, and, no, I wouldn’t want to go back into it,” Thewlis told ScreenTime. “I’ve had quite enough of that. I’m sick of talking about it, quite honestly,” he added.
Although David Thewlis won’t be reprising the role, he still cherishes talks with young fans about his Lupin days. “It is nice because with Harry Potter, it’s kids,” the Naked actor said. “And kids get very kind of impressed and very overawed, and it’s very nice to make kids happy,” he continued.
David Thewlis initially appeared as Professor Remus Lupin in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. His character was the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor with a hidden connection to Harry’s late parents. He reprised the role in the next few films, skipping the fourth instalment. The Deathly Hallows films of 2010 and 2011 wrapped up his time as Lupin.
HBO and Audible are reimagining the Harry Potter narrative through their TV series and audiobook productions. Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon voices Remus Lupin in the new audio adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The full-cast audiobook is available on Audible.
Meanwhile, HBO hasn’t cast the role of Remus Lupin for its upcoming TV adaptation yet.
As for David Thewlis, he is currently promoting The Artful Dodger Season 2, premiering Tuesday on Disney+.
