Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky recently appeared in a new Amazon commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. The ad shows Hemsworth jokingly believing that Alexa+ is out to harm him. His over-the-top reaction adds a fun and comedic twist to the commercial.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Hemsworth said their interest depends on the sport. He said, “It depends on the sport. But anytime there’s excellence displayed at such a pinnacle, it’s hard to turn away.”
He shared that they often watch UFC, along with professional surfing and Australian football. “We watch a lot, like, UFC — even Elsa loves a lot of that — and we’ll watch professional surfing, Australian football,” Hemsworth said.
When it comes to watching the Super Bowl itself, Hemsworth said they’re not hardcore fans. Since they live in Australia, the event doesn’t carry the same weight as it does in the U.S. “We lived in America for a little while, but we’re not avid, obsessed fans. Especially living in Australia, it’s not as big a deal,” the actor explained.
“But I just love the event, and when we lived in America, friends of ours would host Super Bowl parties, and it’s pretty damn special. Whether or not you are rooting for one particular team or the other, it’s very hard not to be wrapped up in the spectacle of the event and the sheer talent that’s on display,” he added.
Pataky added that their kids are curious about the Super Bowl, too. She noted that interest in the game keeps growing worldwide, including in Spain. “Our kids know about it too, and they’re always curious,” she said.
“I think it’s becoming more and more popular everywhere in the world, which is amazing. Even for me, being from Spain, the people there are talking about it, so it’s getting bigger and bigger,” Pataky continued.
Hemsworth and Pataky share a mutual love of sports, which they experience together without rivalries; instead, they both respect outstanding athletic achievements and major events such as the Super Bowl.
