Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive lineman Trey Smith has shared his thoughts on teammate Travis Kelce’s potential retirement from the NFL. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the star football guard weighed in on Kelce’s future in the franchise.
While Kelce still hasn’t announced whether he will hang up his cleats before the next NFL season, Smith stated that he will “support him wholeheartedly” regardless of his decision. The Chiefs star remained respectful of the tight end’s privacy, refusing to reveal his plans for the future.
“You know, at the end of the day, I want to keep his privacy, his privacy,” Smith stated. “Like I said, whatever decision he makes, you know, that’s my brother. That’s a guy I’ve gone to war with countless times and a dude that I love wholeheartedly,” he added.
During the interview, Smith also opened up about how he coped with the heightened attention that Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift brought to the team, as well as their consecutive Super Bowl victory in 2023 and 2024.
“For me, it was just making sure I live up to it,” Smith explained. He added, “Making sure that I don’t bring the standard down. And honestly, you know, with the spotlight, I’m a lineman. I’m in the shadows. You know what I mean? So it isn’t too hard for me, you know? Yeah. It’s cool to just watch those guys keep excelling.”
Meanwhile, the growing uncertainty of Kelce’s future in the NFL continues to dominate headlines. The star tight end has yet to announce whether he will retire this year or return for another season. Furthermore, fans are also eagerly anticipating his upcoming nuptials with Taylor Swift, with whom he got engaged in August 2025.
