Hallmark+ has announced a March 21 premiere for Hope Valley: 1874 and unveiled a first trailer for the historical drama. The series functions as a spin-off to the long-running hit When Calls the Heart and stars Bethany Joy Lenz as Rebecca Clarke alongside Benjamin Ayres as rancher Tom Moore.
The eight-episode series centers on Rebecca Clarke, a widowed mother who leaves Chicago with her young daughter in hopes of starting over in Western Canada. The trailer opens with a voiceover that says, “Before Coal Valley, before the town built on love and faith, there was a story of new beginnings. They traveled west for a new life.”
After arriving in the frontier region, Rebecca reassures her daughter about their move, saying, “We’re in gold country. An adventure, huh.” Their path soon crosses with local rancher Tom Moore, who warns them, “Grit alone isn’t going to save you on the frontier.” The trailer later hints at a deeper bond between the two when Tom states, “I’m looking to build something that lasts,” and Rebecca answers, “So am I.”
The trailer also draws attention to the show’s emphasis on friendship, highlighted in a scene where Rebecca sits with Hattie Quinn, portrayed by Jill Hennessy. The two share a drink, as Hattie lifts her cup and says, “To new friends.” According to Hallmark’s official synopsis, the eight-episode prequel follows a mother who begins a new phase of her life while helping turn a loose group of settlers into a close-knit community.
Hope Valley: 1874 will debut on Hallmark+ on Saturday, March 21, with new episodes streaming every Thursday following the premiere.
