A new rumor suggests that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will feature Jim Carrey’s fan-favorite character, Dr. Robotnik’s return. Sonic 4 was confirmed by Paramount Pictures in January 2025. The movie will be a sequel to the 2024 movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which was directed by Jeff Fowler.

A renowned industry scooper recently stated that Jim Carrey’s character, Dr. Robotnik, is all set to return in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Daniel Richtman wrote on Patreon, “In case you thought he was done, Paramount is talking to Jim Carrey about returning for Sonic 4.” However, no statement has been released by Paramount Pictures regarding this matter.
Carrey was last seen in a double role in the 2024 movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He has been a fan-favorite antagonist among fans. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is set to come out in March 2027, according to a report by Variety.
Ben Schwartz is confirmed to return as the blue speedster. Meanwhile, there is still doubt regarding the return of Jim Carrey. Apart from him, fans are also concerned about Keanu Reeves’ character, Shadow. Moreover, franchise director Jeff Fowler is returning to the director’s chair for Sonic 4.
Fowler spoke to Screen Rant in January 2025 and shared an update on the sequel. He stated that he and the crew were busy with the release and promotions of Sonic 3 in December. However, in January, he was enjoying taking a break.
Fowler added that they are figuring out the next steps and said that he is overwhelmed and happy to witness the “enthusiasm, the anticipation” among fans. He further conveyed the challenges in keeping the franchise continuing and said that “to have the stories feel fresh, and keep the momentum, that’s the goal above everything.”
