On the January 5 episode of the Armchair Expert, Cher playfully told Dax Shepard that Kristen Bell deserved a better partner. Shepard admitted that Cher didn’t fully approve of him as Bell’s partner.
He even asked who Cher would choose for Bell instead, saying he didn’t completely disagree with her. She replied that she trusted Bell’s judgment and joked that Shepard must have good qualities she couldn’t see.
Shepard said he took Cher’s comment in stride after she joked that Bell could do better than him. Shepard said he feels secure in his relationship and is never threatened by Bell’s success.
Cher echoed and acknowledged his supportive mindset as a positive quality while Bell rated him as an excellent father. The episode was in the spotlight more than usual because Armchair Expert was nominated for Best Podcast Golden Globe.
In an interview with Access Hollywood at the Golden Globes 2026, Shepard talked about Cher’s appearance on his podcast, Armchair Expert. Shepard said the comment didn’t surprise him at all.
He explained that he and Cher both expected that kind of honesty, adding that it’s exactly why people love her. He said, “I think we both expected that. That’s why you love Cher, which couldn’t be greater.” His co-host, Monica Padman, also said fans should listen to the full episode instead of reacting to headlines.
Padman added, “There was a couple big headlines, but people need to go listen to the whole thing because everything she says is perfect.” Shepard later said the moment felt funny, not awkward, adding, “We thought it was hysterical.”
Cher and Bell first met in 2010 while filming Burlesque. Meanwhile, Bell and Shepard got engaged that same year and married in 2013. They share two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.
