Fan-Favorite General Hospital Star Returns, Talks Comeback After Injury

The actress who plays General Hospital‘s Diane Miller recently discussed her recovery after breaking her leg last year and her return to work. In November 2025, Carolyn Hennesy took to Facebook to reveal that the injury happened after an incident with her dog, Bela Lugosi. She clarified that no one was at fault; her dog had the zoomies. Instead of stepping on him, she tossed herself mid-air and fell rather ungracefully, resulting in the injury.

In a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Hennesy opened up about her recovery process while mentioning that she underwent two surgeries. She said that her recovery was “slow, but very, very steady.” Reflecting on the improvement, she added, “Two months ago, I couldn’t move without my walker and a brace on my leg; yesterday I took my first steps with no brace, no walker. I feel like I’m ready to jet ski, or square dance, or climb back on my trapeze, but rationally, I know that’s gonna take a while!”

When asked how she knew it was time to resume her work duties, she wittily replied, “I woke up from surgery.” During her time away from General Hospital, she admitted that she missed playing her character and knew that fans did too.

Hennesy also shared what her first day back on set was like following the recovery from injury. “The people on that set, actors and crew, are like family to me — Cynthia Watros [Nina] sent the most fabulous cookies you can imagine during my recovery, bless her huge heart — so in a way it was kind of like going back home,” she added.

Hennesy revealed that everyone on set was incredibly supportive and considerate as she returned to work after her November incident. She also expressed her gratitude to fans for their love and support during her recovery, noting that their heartfelt messages on social media had, in their own way, helped in the healing process.
