National Lampoon is all set to return to feature films with their new movie. It is set to explore dysfunctionality within the entertainment industry. The upcoming film will reportedly star a cast of actors and celebrities who have faced various controversies over the years.
National Lampoon announces next movie National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle
A new National Lampoon movie, National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle, has been announced. The cast includes Mickey Rourke, Alec Baldwin, Nick Cannon, Tara Reid, Danny Trejo, Til Schweiger, Carrot Top, and Patrick Warburton.
The meta movie will be director Mike Hatton’s debut feature. Hatton also penned the script with Paul Sloan. He will also star in the movie as an independent producer desperately trying to save a crumbling movie production alongside Sloan’s character in the film. Cannon stars as a Hollywood agent who helps Hatton’s character by trying to secure Baldwin’s character for the project. Baldwin, Rourke, Reid, and Trejo will all play over-the-top fictionalized versions of themselves.
The plot of National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle follows Hatton’s producer and Sloan’s washed-up movie star. Working together, the two must try to navigate the chaos of Los Angeles after someone steals the money meant for production.
“National Lampoon is responsible for molding an entire generation of comedic filmmakers,” Hatton said in a statement about the project. “I’m honored to be part of that legacy, and working with its amazing team has been a dream come true,” (via The Hollywood Reporter).
According to Producer Asko Akopyan, the movie will mark National Lampoon’s return to its roots in cultural mischief. Akopyan added, “National Lampoon has been shepherding this project and is now stepping out from behind the curtain. With the appetite for inside-Hollywood content and comedies returning to theaters and dominating the streamers, we are confident the time is now.”
National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle does not yet have an official release date.
