US President Donald Trump recently took to social media to criticize George Clooney and his wife, Amal, over receiving French citizenship. Earlier, in a conversation with Esquire, Clooney revealed that he had a desire to raise his children away from the Hollywood spotlight in LA. Therefore, he sought a peaceful life in France with his family, residing primarily at their estate in Brignoles, which they purchased in 2021.

Trump took to Truth Social to slam George Clooney and family over their new citizenship in France. He started the note with, “Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Trump then referenced the instance where Clooney urged former President Joe Biden not to run for a second term, following his poor debate against Trump. He also pointed out how the actor supported Kamala Harris over him in the election. “Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat,” he added.
Further criticizing Clooney over his acting career, Trump wrote, “Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
On Wednesday, the French government announced that George Clooney and Amal have been given French citizenship because “they contribute, through their distinguished actions, to France’s international influence and cultural outreach.”
