Stephen Colbert Says He’d ‘Slip’ Into President Donald Trump’s Body

Stephen Colbert has never been shy about criticizing President Donald Trump, but during a live taping of Slate’s “Political Gabfest,” he took things in a surprising direction. The host asked Colbert a simple, playful question — whose body would he slip into for 24 hours? Colbert did not hesitate, saying he’d pick Trump. And his reasoning was quite straightforward.

Stephen Colbert explains he’d slip into President’s body to do this

John Dickerson posed the question during the show’s 20th anniversary event on December 18, and Stephen Colbert joked that his answer was “predictable,” then admitted he would choose President Donald Trump. He said in a heartbeat: “I would slip inside the skin of our president.”

Moreover, Colbert joked that he would use those 24 hours to do one thing: “I would resign,” adding that he had already pictured exactly how he would do it. He said, “No scandal, no confession, no Sturm und Drang. Just go, ‘It’s been great. I’m the best, ever. I’m gonna go out on top. I’ve done everything. I’m just gonna go.’”

Later, Colbert paused and asked the flip side of the hypothetical: “Is he taking over my body for 24 hours?” joking that if that were the case, he would warn his wife, saying, “Darling, go see your sister for a while.”

The comedian’s comments come after Trump recently blasted Colbert on Truth Social, calling him a “pathetic trainwreck with no talent.” Moreover, Trump even wrote that CBS should “put him to sleep.” The attacks grew louder after Colbert announced that The Late Show would end in May 2026, a decision he made public in July.

Additionally, during the event, Colbert answered a question he has been asked for years — whether he would run for president himself. He shut it down quickly, saying, “Absolutely, I should not run for president,” but joked that he would “have to discuss with my faith leader and my family” once his show ends next year.
