A tragic car accident involving Anthony Joshua is sending shockwaves through the boxing community. The fatal incident has left the British boxer with multiple injuries and has taken the lives of two other men.

Anthony Joshua suffered injuries in a car crash in Nigeria on December 29. This mishap claimed the lives of two of his team members and close friends. The former heavyweight champ was reportedly sitting in the back of a Lexus SUV when it collided with a truck on a highway.
In an official statement posted on X, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing confirmed that the two men who lost their lives were Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. The post also noted that Joshua “was taken to hospital for checks and treatment” and would “remain there for observation.”
“Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected – and we ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Ogun State Police stated that Joshua and his friends were riding a Lexus SUV. Speaking with ESPN, Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo reported, “The accident happened as a result of a burst tire on AJ’s vehicle, which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle to swerve into the stationary truck parked along the road.”
Disturbing photos from the crash site have since surfaced online. One photo reportedly shows a shirtless Joshua lying unconscious inside the vehicle amid shards of broken glass. Other images capture the heavily damaged SUV on the side of the highway surrounded by a crowd of locals.
The accident occurred just ten days after Joshua beat Jake Paul in the ring on December 19. Following the incident, Paul wrote on X: “Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”
Fans have also flooded social media with wishes for Joshua’s speedy recovery, while paying tribute to his late teammates.
