Avengers: Doomsday’s Shocking Plot Twist Possibly Revealed

A new rumor about Doctor Doom‘s role in Avengers: Doomsday has surfaced. Robert Downey Jr.‘s character is confirmed to be an antagonist to the film’s central heroes. However, not much is known about his motivations or character arc. The upcoming movie is still one year away from its release. Nevertheless, rumors about the film’s story and character arcs have begun to surface, fueling fan excitement around the film.

Doctor Doom rumored to act as a hero in Avengers: Doomsday

A new rumor suggests that Doctor Doom will pretend to be a hero for much of Avengers: Doomsday before his inevitable betrayal.

This rumor comes from notable scooper MyTimetoShineHello, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The difference between Doomsday and the other Avengers films is that Doom is on the heroes’ side for much of it.”

They continued, “Obviously, he’s only pretending – big surprise! But that does make it a bit different from the other films.”

It’s important to note that this is only a rumor as of writing. However, if this rumor turns out to be true, it would mark a major shift in the storytelling of the Avengers franchise. Previous Avengers films have seen villains go up against the heroes from the start to the end, without allying or pretending to ally with them.

Notably, in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver served as antagonists to the Avengers for the better part of the film, having allied with Ultron due to their shared hatred of Tony Stark. The twins, desiring global peace and stability, eventually switched sides after learning of Ultron’s true goal.

Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026. Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps. However, rumors suggest that the film will have a central theme of fatherhood.

Anthony and Joe Russo directed the film and also co-produced it with Marvel Studios via their production company, AGBO. Writers Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron worked on the film’s screenplay.
