Saturday Night Live (SNL) anchor Colin Jost found himself as the latest target of co-anchor Michael Che’s infamous annual joke swap. He was completely unprepared and reading brutally personal jokes about his own wife, Scarlett Johansson.
Colin Jost reads jokes about Scarlett Johansson on SNL
During SNL’s December 20 episode, Che revived a notorious “Weekend Update” holiday tradition where he and Colin Jost make each other read jokes they’ve never seen. Che explained on air, “Tonight is our Christmas show, and we have a tradition where me and Colin give each other jokes to read that neither of us have ever seen.”
Jost, however, appeared genuinely surprised. “That’s interesting because you specifically said that we were not doing it this year. And you know that I did not write any jokes for you,” he said, before Che responded, “Well, I guess you’ll just have to read mine.”
After reading out a couple of provocative jokes on social issues, Jost reached the most personal punchline of the night. Reading directly from Che’s script, he said, “New research shows that millions of women leave the workforce due to menopause which means there’s only a couple years left on my gravy train,” as a photo of Scarlett Johansson appeared beside him. He continued, “My girl already be like, ‘Colin, I’m warm. Colin, I’m sweating.’ B—-, you’re having a hot flash.”
The bit didn’t end there. “But don’t worry about me, I got a back up,” Jost read as Johansson’s picture was replaced by one of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. “They don’t call Wednesday hump day for nothing.” Che quickly distanced himself from the bit, quipping, “Wow, Colin, I wouldn’t have done that one.”
This was not the first time the couple became the subject of a Weekend Update swap. In December 2024, Jost was forced to read a joke about Costco discontinuing a roast beef sandwich. Further adding a sexual punchline about his wife after childbirth.
