A new report about Hayley Atwell‘s Captain Peggy Carter has emerged, claiming that multiple versions of the character will show up in Avengers: Doomsday. Captain Carter has not yet been officially confirmed for the highly anticipated MCU ensemble film. Directed by The Russo Brothers, the upcoming movie will feature returning characters like Anthony Mackie’s Captain America.

A new rumor suggests that Hayley Atwell will play multiple versions of Captain Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. The rumor comes from notable scooper MyTimetoShineHello. They wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Hayley Atwell is playing multiple versions of Peggy in Avengers Doomsday.”
One version of Peggy Carter that could show up in Doomsday is the one introduced at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Steve Rogers from the main MCU timeline chose to spend the rest of his days with this version after returning the Infinity Stones. Rogers and Peggy Carter’s appearance in Doomsday was seemingly confirmed by a trailer description shared by MTTSH.
Another version of Captain Carter could be the one introduced in What If…? Either she, or a similar variant, could appear. Giving this variant a respectable role would make Captain Carter fans happy, especially after she was gruesomely killed by Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Due to the rumored presence of multiple versions of Captain Carter, we might even see her join a team of multiple Captain Americas and super soldiers. They might include Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, and Alexei Shostakov. Furthermore, fans can even speculate that an alternate evil version could also show up as an ally of Doctor Doom.
But none of the above is confirmed. And until we get a confirmation from Marvel, the speculation of multiple Peggy variants should be taken with a grain of salt.
Earlier this year, Atwell also addressed reports suggesting her return in Doomsday in a Collider interview. When asked about the reports, she replied, “Really? Who…on Reddit? Who’s doing that? Who’s saying that?”
However, in a separate interview with Den of Geek, she expressed interest in returning in Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. She said, “I would love that. There are so many things that she could do, there’s so much more I feel I can bring to a character because I’ve developed as time’s gone on.” She added that more storytelling avenues could be explored with Captain Carter and called her “an underserved character.”
Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026.
