Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid shared an update on Patrick Mahomes‘ injury and revealed that the quarterback feels responsible for his team’s shortcomings. On December 14, Mahomes suffered an injury when being brought down by the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive end Da’Shawn Hand. He quickly clutched his left knee in pain before the medical team rushed in to check up on him.

In a conversation with KC Sports Network, coach Reid revealed that he has visited Mahomes on a couple of occasions since the injury and that he’s currently in a “good place.”
Moreover, he also opened up about what Mahomes’ thoughts are on suffering an injury during a crucial time and after seeing his team getting eliminated from playoff contention. He added, “He always feels like he let people down, but then he comes back, and he’s ready for the challenge ahead, which is what’s real right now. He’s just got to get through surgery or whatever it might be and move on from there.”
On December 16, the Kansas City Chiefs also took to X (formerly Twitter) to update fans about Mahomes’ injury, revealing that the surgery is done and he will begin rehabilitation immediately. The post read, “Patrick Mahomes successfully underwent surgery in Dallas this evening with Dr. Dan Cooper to repair the tear in his left ACL. Mahomes will begin his rehab process immediately.”
After the Chiefs’ elimination, Mahomes also shared an X post. He reflected on the loss, expressing his disappointment, and thanked Chiefs fans for their support. He wrote, “Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever.”
